Military Base Student Dormitory

In March of 2019, this $29 million design/build construction contract for a new dormitory for F-35 maintenance personnel training was awarded to Whitesell-Green, Inc. through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Warren Doors & Access Control provided hollow metal, wood doors and hardware for the 2010 LEED certified F-35 Student Dormitory project.

Throughout the building a variety or door manufacturers were used to complete the project. A mixture of Steelcraft hollow metal, Overly acoustical steel, and Masonite wood and acoustical wood doors were provided by Warren Doors. Acoustical doors are used in a variety of applications where sound control is necessary, such as an office space or even a dormitory. Masonite Architectural states that they, “know that sound is just as important as sight—both are crucial to improving the built environment. Acoustic design can be used to create happier, healthier and more productive environments.”

With the high pressure that is associated with a military training environment, it was important to provide the personnel with a place where they can study and focus without distractions. The new F-35 maintainers’ dormitory is built to match the existing 33rd Fighter Wing dormitory and will house two people per suite. The dormitory is projected to be completed by the end of 2021.
